Melanie Matthews is a freelance illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia
Normally I don’t go in much for childrens-book-style illustration, but the above piece by Melanie Matthews just jumped out at me with it’s mix of lush brushed textures and cut-out vector style artwork which manages to be cute without being too syrupy.
There doesn’t seem to be much information out there about her (past the fact that her favorite animals are tigers and bears and her enjoyment of the smell of new books), but with work like this I’m sure that wont be the case for too much longer.
Unfortunately her personal website is under construction at the moment, but she is at work on a project to draw a cartoon every day of 2010 which can be followed on her blog (which also contains links through to her twitter and flickr pages) here
